Typed transcript, carbon, of a journal written by William Ellis Jones, prepared by Claudia Beames in 1937 during the Works Progress Administration's Utah Historical Records Survey in Washington County. The journal contains a summary of Jones's birth and early life in England, his conversion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and his immigration to Nauvoo, Illinois, in 1842. In entries for June 28, 1861-May 22, 1896, he describes moving to Salt Lake City in 1861 and to Washington County, Utah in 1864, where he eventually settled in Gunlock. Jones discusses his religious and family life, his practice of polygamy, and his work as a brickmaker and schoolteacher. A table of contents and an index of names are included.
